High-Quality Orchestral String Instruments
The Finest Brands of Violins, Violas, Cellos, and Basses
There are many string instruments that can be included in a string orchestra. A typical string ensemble generally includes four main instruments: violins, violas, cellos, and upright basses (also known as the string bass or contrabass). These four instruments may look similar in physical appearance (with the main difference being size at first glance), but they are all very different how they are played, the pitch and volume of sound produced, and more. Orchestral string instruments are also referred to as “bowed instruments,” because they are generally played with a bow. These instruments are among the oldest chromatic instruments, descended from the viola de gamba (viol). Violins also have the designation of potentially being the most expensive instruments ever sold!
