The Lake Tahoe Music Camp is a weeklong camp from June 30 - July 6, 2019 for band students completing the 7th through 12th grade. LTMC offers concert bands, jazz bands, chamber ensembles, music classes, and its own private beach on Lake Tahoe. Boasting a full and well-qualified staff, LTMC gives students the opportunity to work with instructors one-on-one, in section rehearsals and in full band rehearsals.
In their free time every afternoon, students can play basketball, volleyball, ping pong, swim in the lake, canoe, kayak, or just take a nap in their cabin. Students also get the special experience of viewing the South Lake Tahoe Fourth of July Fireworks from the private beach - it is incredible! Students are housed in cabins with other children their age and gender.
The camp week concludes with a final concert for parents and friends before students are picked up to go home. Many students return year after year because of LTMC's special fun atmosphere and access to quality musical experiences. We hope you join us this summer.

Reno Jazz Festival

Absolute Music is proud to sponsor the largest music event in northern Nevada – the amazing Reno Jazz Festival. Absolute Music is on the scene with two large displays of musical instruments and accessories, as well as a free emergency musical instrument repair service to the amazing musicians attending this great event. Absolute Music also offers large instrument rentals to visiting ensembles that cannot transport their own instruments. These large instrument rentals include String Basses, Vibraphones, and more.

SINCE 1962, THE RENO JAZZ FESTIVAL HAS DRAWN JAZZ STUDENTS, INSTRUCTORS, FANS, AND PROFESSIONAL PERFORMERS TO RENO TO PLAY, LISTEN, AND LEARN. AND WHAT A RANGE OF JAZZ THE FESTIVAL HAS FEATURED OVER THE YEARS... FROM SOLO PERFORMERS TO LARGE ENSEMBLES, FROM THE MOST STRAIGHT-AHEAD TO THE FURTHEST REACHES OF THE AVANT-GARDE. THE FESTIVAL OFFERS PUBLIC PERFORMANCES BY WORLD-RENOWNED MUSICIANS FROM ACROSS NORTH AMERICA, AUSTRALIA, ASIA, AND EUROPE. OUR GUEST ARTISTS REPRESENT SOME OF THE MOST CREATIVE AND CELEBRATED MUSICIANS IN JAZZ HISTORY: ART BLAKEY, RAY BROWN, ROY HAYNES, LEE KONITZ, MICHAEL BRECKER, JON HENDRICKS, DAVE HOLLAND, BOBBY HUTCHERSON, CHARLIE HADEN, MARIA SCHNEIDER, RAVI COLTRANE, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON… 2019 WILL BE NO DIFFERENT as we present some of the top names in jazz such as Melissa Aldana, a remarkable tenor saxophonist who won the 2013 Thelonious Monk Competition and whom the Washington Post describes as representing "a new sense of possibility and direction in jazz."

This year’s other headliner is another great tenor saxophonist, Walter Smith III, who has appeared on over 100 recordings worldwide and has been compared by the New York Times to Miles Davis for his outstanding band-leading ability. As always, we will also be presenting many workshops with some of the finest clinicians and performers in the country. With more than 300 school groups, up to 10,000 participants, and 60 clinicians, performers, and adjudicators, we continue to strive to ensure that every guest participant leaves with greater knowledge, appreciation, and love of music and the world of jazz. The Reno Jazz Festival is a massive undertaking, and it would not be possible without help from all of our co-sponsors and volunteers. Special thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts, Nevada Arts Council, City of Reno, Absolute Music, and to our own University of Nevada, Reno for its unfailing support over the past three decades, especially from the School of the Arts and College of Liberal Arts. Thanks must also be given to all of the tireless music educators who have chosen to go above and beyond the call of duty each and every year to fundraise and organize a trip for their students to attend the Reno Jazz Festival! We are so fortunate in that we get to see and hear some of the very best student musicians each year.

We cannot thank you enough for your loyalty to the Reno Jazz Festival and for your commitment to music education in general.

Since its inaugural year in 1980, this competition has drawn bands from all over the state of Nevada and beyond. Absolute Music is proud to be the title sponsor of this extraordinary experience for the top high school bands in our region. In addition to our sponsor responsibilities, Absolute Music is also there to provide free emergency repairs when the need arises. We are also sure to have a large display of musical instruments, accessories, and gift items available.

NAMM Music Education Advocacy Washington D.C. Fly-In

Each May, our founder Steve Gibson, joins a group of NAMM members and special guests in Washington, D.C. to serve as advocates for the right of every child to learn and grow with music by visiting with their elected representatives on Capitol Hill. NAMM Fly-In participants, or delegates, receive intensive training from their peers and from policy experts to prepare for meetings with their members of congress. Information outlining research-based talking points and a targeted policy and/or funding request are provided. Congressional visits are also an opportunity to celebrate with members of congress the school districts and individual schools in their states and congressional districts that received national recognition through The NAMM Foundation’s Best Communities for Music Education designation or SupportMusic Merit Award.

Other area Concerts, Festivals, and Music Competitions

Absolute Music strives to be the most prominently displayed music store in the region. We strive to live up to what one of our favorite customers was overheard saying years ago: “Man! Absolute Music is everywhere!”

Whether it is a Solo and Ensemble competition, an honor band or honor orchestra concert, the Nevada Music Educators Association All-State Festival, the Nevada State Marching Band competition, the Reno Jazz Festival, or any of a number of other music related events here in our community, we are likely there to show our support to the fine schools and organizations that provide these wonderful learning and performing experiences.
