Absolute Music's Founder, Steve Gibson

Born and raised in a very musical family and started music lessons at a very early age. But it wasn’t until a friend in 5th grade talked him into joining the band at school that he found his true love for music. From that time on, the school music programs pretty much defined his life. Steve’s higher education was completed in Fullerton and Riverside California, getting what he calls the best of both worlds studying jazz and classical music at Fullerton all while marching and touring the world with the renown Riverside Marching Tigers.

Getting The Band Together

In 1995, Steve relocated to Reno, Nevada to build and grow the band and orchestra division of a full-line music store. After nearly ten years of building relationships with music educators, students, and professional musicians; as well as fostering relationships within the music products industry, Steve purchased the band and orchestra division of the music store in which he worked, and separated to open Absolute Music.

Since that time Absolute Music has continued to grow and become the powerhouse of the school music industry in Nevada. Absolute Music chooses to specialize in what they do best… offering the best in band and orchestra instruments, accessories, print music, service and repair, as well as private music lessons.

Supporting Music Education

Absolute Music believes in the music education community and enjoys being a part of and supporting this tight-knit group of educators and students. Absolute Music is proud to sponsor and participate in a lot of the area music competitions, festivals, and concerts. We sponsor and participate in every marching band, colorguard, and drumline competition in Northern Nevada. We can be found at many concerts and festivals as well. We’re proud to support the Reno Jazz Festival by offering needed supplies as well as free emergency instrument repairs; this event draws scholastic and collegiate performing groups from all over the world. Absolute Music also supports the unparalleled Lake Tahoe Music Camp with several Scholarships to deserving students. And, we are proud to be the title sponsor of the “UNR Sierra Band Crusade presented by Absolute Music,” which is the official Nevada State Marching Band Championships. So whenever you’re out at one of these events, please stop by our display and say hello!

We are so proud that our founder Steve Gibson has been selected to be a part of the delegation that NAMM sends to Washington DC every spring to fight for music education funding. It is an experience that he truly enjoys and it shows what is important to him and his company.
