About Us

While being raised in a family that has been very musical for many generations, Steve didn't join band until his friend in 5th grade talked him into it.  That decision in elementary school changed his whole life.  He wanted to play trombone, but he was a small kid with short arms (he didn't stay that way) so was talked into playing the baritone horn instead.  When it was time to start Jr. High, he switched to trumpet because it was easier to carry on a bicycle.  From there he never looked back.  School from then on was all about band.

In school, Steve's favorite part of being in music was Marching Band.  Through Jr. High, High School, and College he marched for ten years.  The pinnacle of his marching experience was while he was part of the world famous RCC Marching Tigers.

In 1995 after College, Steve took a position with Carpenter's Music World as the Band & Orchestra Specialist.  It was his responsibility to work directly with the area schools and grow the B&O division.  Before long, Steve was promoted to General Manager.  During his time with CMW, he completed a band instrument repair apprenticeship under renown technician, Dave Huey.  But his favorite accomplishment was the many close working relationships and friendships within the music education community he was able to make.  In 2004 Steve acquired the band and orchestra division of CMW and opened Absolute Music.

For more than twelve years, Steve and his team at Absolute Music have grown to be northern Nevada's largest and most respected band and orchestra specialty store.

Steve still enjoys making music as often as he can.  He is proud to play with both the Reno Wind Symphony and the Reno Municipal Band.  He has also played in the Reno Pops Orchestra and other area ensembles.  When he's not playing, Steve is an avid member of the audience - look for him in the front row at the Pioneer Center... he has season tickets for the Reno Philharmonic and the Broadway Comes to Reno series, among others.

Maybe the only thing Steve enjoys more than music is his family.  He is a proud single father with three amazing kids.  His life revolves around them and their achievements.  He tries to be active in the things they enjoy.  He currently serves as a Scout Master for Troop 445 of the Boy Scouts of America so he gets to spend a lot of extra time camping with his youngest son.

Other members of the Absolute Music team join Steve to make an unrivaled source for all your musical instrument needs.  The Absolute Music staff is made up of highly qualified, college educated musicians and business people.  You wont just find Absolute Music at their store, they're always out and about at Northern Nevada's many musical events.
